The United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages to draw attention to the critical loss of indigenous languages and the urgent need to preserve, revitalize and promote them at the national and international levels.

The 2019 LSA Institute will highlight the importance of indigenous and endangered languages in expressing diverse cultural identities, communicating unique perspectives of the world, and sustaining linguistic communities. The Institute will offer several courses and events, including lectures, workshops & symposia, as well as social gatherings, that bring indigenous and endangered languages, and scholars working on these issues, to the forefront.
